Forest Raised Pork

We are once again raising pigs on our farm this year, we raise them to the same standards that we raise our chickens. They will receive GMO free feed and be raised in the woods, a pig’s natural habitat. As with our chicken, forest raised pork is something you just can’t get in the supermarket. The quality and taste of truly forest raised pork cannot be beat. Along with retail cuts, we are offering half and whole hogs that will be custom cut to your specifications. This is a great way to get your pork for approximately $7.25/lb.

What will I get?

Every animal is unique and impossible to predict exactly what will come from a specific animal, however a typical half hog will include the following:

  • 9-11 lbs of belly (typically turned into bacon)
  • 12-15 lbs of loin (includes center loin chops, tenderloin, and sirloin)
  • 10-12 lbs of sausage (you can always get more sausage by grinding ham or shoulder)
  • 18-20 lbs of ham (can be smoked ham steaks, whole hams, or uncured pork cutlets)
  • 15-18 lbs of shoulder roast (can be large roasts, pork steaks, or both)
  • 4-6 lbs of spare ribs
  • 2-3 lbs of baby back ribs
  • 2-3 lbs of ham hocks (great for navy beans, green beans, or other soups)
  • 3-5 lbs of soup bones (also make great dog treats)

For a whole hog, just double the above quantities.

If a half or whole pig just seems like too much for you and your family right now, might I suggest our monthly meat CSA or our quarter pig bundle.
