Beer Can Chicken

When you think of preparing a chicken for a cookout, there is probably nothing that comes to mind before a classic beer can chicken. It is simple, easy, and delicious. If you are intimidated with cooking a whole chicken, this is a great place to dip your toe in and give it a shot.

What you will need:

  • 1 Bailey Family Farm whole chicken
  • 1 12oz can of beer (whatever you like because you will drink half)
  • favorite seasonings and herbs (salt, pepper, and garlic are always winners)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the grill/smoker to medium heat (~350)
  2. Rub salt, pepper, and any herbs of your choice (garlic, rosemary, thyme, etc) on the skin and in the cavity of the chicken.
  3. Drink half of the beer (for extra credit put some herbs in the remaining beer)
  4. Slide the chicken down onto the beer can (in the cavity, where the can is supporting the chicken and the legs can be pointed down acting as supports)
  5. Cook for approximately 90 minutes on indirect heat, checking and rotating periodically
  6. Remove chicken when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees and let rest for 10 minutes ( be very careful removing the can from the chicken, the beer will be very hot)
